Have you noticed the new wave of Anti-Muslim sentiments embodied in protests against building mosques in some states? Texas, Tennessee, Virginia and New York? protest leaders calling for the public to complain to towns about mosque construction plans. Parents pushing schools to remove material about Islam in textbooks. Muslim workers not allowed flexible breaks to accommodate breaking their fast during Ramadan unless hard pressure is put on employers. Not all Americans are riding the Islamophobia train of course, because I believe the real Americans are warm-hearted, smart and kind people. Whenever I do a quick research after I read an anti-Muslim article, I find that the key names trace back to either a Zionist or a Christian Zionist involvement.
Looks at this lost bunch of youth in Morocco! a complete brainwashing, loss of cultural identity and a threat to other vulnerable youth. I hope for every one of them there are 10 good Moroccans grounded in values, principles and good taste. Crazy!
This documentary sheds light on the Maghrib that I love and secretly fantasize about. Conservative Countryside, Horses, Character, Beauty and Religion. I've been there, I played alongside djellaba wearing boys on the hills and played with their bold outspoken girls in the green meadows. I inhaled the Moroccan countryside as a boy and that smell will haunt me as long as I live.
it's sad for me because urban life has stang its canines deep inside my skin, and its molars have crushed my bones. Will I ever be released!? Should I?
...watching this documentary,
I want to be this Mohammed ~ isn't he such a handsome young man too!
A lot of you may have heard in the past few days of Sheikh Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's recent death in a gliding accident in Morocco. It took about 4 days for the authorities to find his body.
But does anyone know where the Spanish co-pilot went? Apparently he survived the incident with minor injuries but what I'd like to know is - where's the dude at? Is he even being investigated?
What on earth was this all about? ... and we are told Moroccan politicians don't give a damn about the Moroccan tax-payers. This video is perhaps relatively old, but this congressman once MIT graduate and MBA blows away the corrupt competition we claim Morocco has. What an asshole.
It's a photo story of Romeo & Juliet all over again, featuring a Moroccan Avatar. Moroccan Avatar is a term coined by Antr McShaddad (Yahia) ~ it refers to those men and women from Morocco who embody that mysterious and subtle something we all sense in our culture but are sometimes unable to describe.
A while ago I posted about the gigantic touristic project in Saidia. Some were against and some were for it. I've been following on youtube a local environmental activist who was against the methods, plans and processes used in the building of this project. Recently he posted a video showing an erosion happening very close to the project. I am not an oceanic engineer and do not know what to make of it, but I am guessing this is a natural phenomenon. I am trying to find out how this correlates, if it does, to the gigantic touristic project Mediterrania Saidia. Any experts? any commentators?
Recently, out of nowhere, I got immensely intrigued and fascinated by the Arabic geometric Kufi calligraphy. Some of the works of our ancestors in mosques and buildings are beautiful. As I plunge into this art form, I'm discovering it has some strict rules which make me appreciate this thing even more. This is my second sketch piece. My first was the usual spiritual "bismi allah arra7man arra7im" which was actually a painting I'll post next time. In this one, I wanted something that creates a nice memory for my close family. Let's see how many names you can successfully guess!
For those of you who have experience with geo Kufi, by the way I admit, since I am still learning, this is not perfect. I am making a bunch of mistakes here and there, and this is why it may be hard to decipher
I miss Morocco! May God protect the authentic good Moroccan traditions.
This is a group of Imams from Beni Mellal, Morocco, chanting a popular spiritual poems. The chanting follows a scale and melody different than what I grew up listening to in Eastern Morocco. Different regions of Morocco seem to have different styles. The poem invokes the righteous life of Prophet Mohammed, his traits, mission and is overall a nice remembrance of the Prophet in a few
